This parameter is used in a voice that may be the only one on rendering the instrument part of a multi-voice tune.

When the voice does not appear or contains only visible or invisible rests for some time, this time is rendered by the 'H' sign (multi-measure rest) with the text of the parameter instead of the number of measures.
