This parameter is used to decide if a staff must be displayed or not.

The possible values are:

0 don't display a staff when it does not contain visible notes,
1 don't display a staff when it does not contain visible rests or visible notes,
2 always display the staves.

With abc2svg, this parameter may be set per voice.
